We currently have several services and initiatives to help increase student retention, success, and graduation, as well as several programs in partnership with offices around campus to help our students engage with each other and relax throughout the semester.

Midterm and Finals Week DeStress Fests
Feeling stressed during midterms and finals? The University Libraries are here to help! Each semester, in partnership with Student Wellness, we run our De-Stress Fests during mid-semester and final exam week. Stop by for Stressbuster back rubs, origami, coloring, self-care kits, meditation, and yes, therapy dogs! Be sure to stop by the 4th floor of St. Augustine Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 11th from 1-3pm for our next fest on the Queens campus!

Search, Source, Write, and Cite: A New Research Series
In alignment with both the University’s and Libraries’ missions, the Libraries have launched new research series entitled “Search, Source, Write, Cite: How to Maximize Your Research Skills for Academic Success”. This four-part research series runs monthly during common hour, and aims to provide training for students in information literacy skills to help ensure their academic success. Currently available through the RISE Mentoring Network, the program will be extended to other student groups in 2020.

Research-Ready Peer Specialists

Research-Ready Peer Specialists 
Research shows that peer-to-peer engagement significantly improves academic success and the college experience. To help realize that at St. John’s, the University Libraries have created the Research-Ready Peer Specialists Training Program, which trains undergraduates as specialists in research services and affords them the opportunity to interact with their fellow students as they assist them in their research needs. The peer specialists go through a five-week training program that covers important aspects of the research process, customer service, and librarianship, enabling them to serve as peer research specialists at the Libraries’ service desk.
